Students will learn their colours, animals, alphabet, transport, personal description signs, emotions and many more.

Students will use these and make signed sentences and learn to sign to each other in conversations.

B,B & B involves mindfulness activities, as well as the promotion of a healthy lifestyle through play. Each week students have a dedicated session to B,B & B where they explore a range of topics including emotional regulation, personal strengths, conflict resolution and developing healthy friendships.

Grow4Growth

This year 5/6 students will get their hands dirty and learn about the fundamentals of growing your own food and discovering the journey from veggie patch to the dinner table. This program allows students to immerse themselves in a range of subjects from Science, Art, Gardening and Cooking, whilst always learning life skills that they can hold on to forever.

Students in F-4 have opportunities throughout the year to be involved in the gardens with their class teacher.

Jolly Phonics

Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics.

With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers, who can see their students achieve.

Jolly Phonics is explicitly taught in Foundation and revised in Years 1-2 as students begin their reading journey.

Reading

At Bayles we are moving towards the 'Science of Reading' Body of Knowledge to ensure our students have all the fundamental reading skills required to be able to read and comprehend. Starting in Foundation with Jolly Phonics and moving through the year levels by building knowledge to decode and comprehend complex texts.

Learning Support is provided as part of our STEP-UP program (this program includes the Tutor Learning Initiative) as well as extension programs to challenge students.

Writing

At Bayles we use Talk For Writing as our approach. Students are given fun 'hooks' to engage them in each unit. They learn stories through story maps and actions before moving through the various stages, resulting in publishing independent writing pieces.

Students from F-6 participate in this approach which enhances their oral language, vocabulary and understanding of structuring different genres.

Maths Ninjas

The Maths NInja's program forms part of the Numeracy Curriculum at BRPS. Students work through the program at their point of need to consolidate their number skills.

As they move through the program Measurement, Money and Problem Solving is also covered. Once students pass a Belt they are presented with a coloured wristband at assembly from a Ninja Turtle!

Maths Workshops

Our goal is to equip students with the skills they need in order become confident mathematicians. Our approach is to immerse students in meaningful investigative math tasks, where they're provided with opportunities to use their critical thinking and problem solving skills.

We aim to incorporate hands-on teaching whenever possible using a range of resources such as concrete materials, lesson hooks and the Maths300 program.

Additional Learning Support is provided through our Seekers groups and students requiring extra challenges participate in WOW groups.

STUDENT VOICE

At Bayles Regional Primary School all students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills in order to support fellow students and to benefit the wider community. Opportunities to develop these qualities are provided through a range of learning experiences, both in their everyday school life and in targeted leadership programs. Every student is encouraged to build their own sense of themselves as leaders.

Student Voice is students actively participating in decision making within their school on things that shape their educational experience.

Student voice creates a positive environment and culture, increases the overall engagement in learning, and allows for students and teachers to design solutions and learning experiences together as well as promoting connection and a sense of belonging. At Bayles Regional Primary school we have 8 amazing students from Foundation – Year 6 that represent out Student Voice team. We value the perspectives and opinions of our students and our staff collaboratively act on these in a way that shapes the learning and decision making at school.

We celebrate the end of the Transition program with a teddy bears picnic that they share with their Year 6 buddies.

This program enables our newest school members to familiarise themselves with our school grounds, staff and of course their new classmates.
